Facility Maintenance Manager

We are currently seeking a Facility Maintenance Manager to join our Green Metals Team in Londonderry, NH, USA. 

Outokumpu is a multinational stainless steel producer.  We aim to leverage the best available avenues in state of the art technologies and emerging disruptive innovations to establish a new paradigm in geopolitically secure and environmentally sustainable metals production.  We are looking for a Facility Maintenance Manager with strong industrial experience to lead all maintenance operations in our pilot scale metals processing facility, located in the New Hampshire / Massachusetts border region. This role includes close collaboration with our Green Metals Team to support pilot projects, process improvements, and technology integration.   

The ideal candidate brings a balance of hands-on leadership, preventive maintenance strategy, and the flexibility to support experimental or non-standard operations driven by research and innovation efforts.

 

What you will bring:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent experience in a related technical field 
  • 5–10 years of industrial maintenance experience in a metals, foundry, or heavy manufacturing environment 

  • 2+ years in a maintenance leadership or supervisory role 

  • Experience supporting engineering or R&D groups in implementation and testing of new technologies

  • Knowledge of ferrous or non-ferrous furnace systems (e.g., aluminum, copper, nickel, or steel melting/holding)

  • Proficiency with CMMS (SAP, Maximo, or similar)

  • Familiar with NFPA 86 (Industrial Furnaces) and New England safety/environmental codes

  • Solid understanding of industrial automation, sensors, and control systems 

 

Job Responsibilites include but not limited to:

 

Maintenance Operations: 

  • Lead day-to-day maintenance activities for ferrous and non-ferrous melting, holding, and casting furnace systems. 

  • Develop and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs. 

  • Supervise maintenance crews and coordinate external contractors as needed. 

  • Ensure high furnace uptime, safe equipment performance, and rapid response to breakdowns. 

 

Pilot Trials Support: 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact regarding equipment for trials and test programs conducted at the pilot plant. 

  • Support installation and commissioning of new experimental systems, sensor technologies, or automation upgrades. 

  • Ensure all modifications meet safety, compliance, and operational readiness standards. 

 

Equipment Reliability: 

  • Monitor and improve KPIs: MTBF, MTTR, downtime, and energy use. 

  • Oversee equipment upgrades, retrofits, and capital improvement projects within the furnace area. 

  • Work closely with engineering and development teams to assess the long-term maintainability of new systems. 

 

Project Management: 

  • Lead construction project management for installation of process equipment and multidisciplinary execution of facilities upgrades  

  • Maintain construction schedule, planning and coordination of on-site activities 

  • Engage with pilot furnace managers to understand needed equipment modifications, coordinating engineering support, vendor selection and onboarding, and work supervision 

 

 Safety & Regulatory Compliance: 

  • Maintain full compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and local New England environmental regulations. 

  • Conduct job hazard analyses, LOTO reviews, and lead safety meetings and audits. 

  • Ensure all maintenance work adheres to corporate EHS standards and plant SOPs. 

 

Team Leadership: 

  • Supervise and develop a skilled maintenance team (mechanics, electricians, refractory, plumbing / HVAC, etc.). 

  • Build a proactive, collaborative maintenance culture focused on uptime, innovation, and accountability. 

  • Deliver training on new systems, tools, or processes introduced in the pilot plant 

 

We desire candidates with a cross section of these skills and proficiencies:

Salary Range: US $122,600 to $168,500
