Master's Thesis Worker - Kemi Mine

Location:

Kemi, FI

Outokumpu Kemi Mine is looking for an ambitious and curious Master’s student to join us for a thesis project that turns geological modelling into real operational impact. This is a unique opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge Leapfrog models and explore how ore type knowledge can support smarter mine planning, processing, and daily decision-making.

About the Thesis Project
This thesis will focus on transforming knowledge from modelled ore types into actionable insights for grade control, mine planning, processing, and operational decision-making. You’ll work with new Leapfrog models currently being developed at the mine, applying your findings to real-world workflows.

Study Scope
•    Assess the impact of ore body variability on short- and medium-term planning.
•    Simulate findings into mine planning workflows (e.g., block models, dilution assessment, reconciliation inputs).
•    Evaluate the reliability of results using operational and production data.

What We’re Looking For
•    Master’s student in geology, mineralogy, or a related field
•    Strong command of English, both written and spoken
•    Solid communication skills and an analytical, data-driven mindset
•    Comfortable working with large datasets
•    Willingness to collaborate with operational mine teams
•    Experience with — or interest in learning — Leapfrog Geo

Location & Flexibility
•    Majority of work onsite at Kemi, Finland.
•    Part-time remote work possible.

Why Join Us?
•    Work on a real-world project with direct operational relevance.
•    Gain hands-on experience with geological modeling and mine planning tools.
•    Contribute to innovations that improve efficiency and sustainability in mining.

Interested? Submit your application by 15th February, 2026, and shape the future of mining operations with us!
