The Role: (Senior) Data Scientist

As a part of our Data Science team, you'll be at the forefront of driving AI use across the company. Here's your chance to ideate, design, develop, and deploy AI/ML solutions for a wide variety of use cases. For example, we are currently working with steel melt shop raw material optimization, cost optimization for spot electricity prices and computer vision for steel defect detection. We are also developing and testing use cases for large language models and generative AI.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • AI/ML Expertise: Dive into the world of probabilistic machine learning, generative artificial intelligence, deep learning, computer vision, and more! Your passion for solving complex problems with data and AI is what we're looking for, and having experience from also totally different domains is of great value to us – we have a lot of data and opportunities and need more people to realize the great potential and bring in their perspective.
  • DevOps and Agile Mastery: Proficiency in Python? Check. Understanding of DevOps and agile methodologies? Check. Write clean, modular, and well-documented code? Check, check, check! While we understand that not all data scientists are expert developers, certain fundamentals do help a lot. Much of the early stages in proof-of-concepts happens in a very dynamic manner, but abilities to bring this to production are valued!
  • Cloud Prowess: Experience in using data that resides in the cloud and deploying and managing AI/ML solutions on cloud platforms, preferably Azure? Excellent!
  • Rapid Prototyping Attitude: We need curious and creative minds. If you are willing to learn, experiment with new ideas, and adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic environment, then you are exactly the type of person we are looking for!

 

Our technology stack:

  • Python programming language: our main tool for data science. We use popular frameworks and libraries such as Pandas, Scikit-learn, Pyomo, Numpy, YoloX and Matplotlib.
  • SQL and time series databases: most of our data is stored in SQL databases, but we also have lot of time series data from our mill automation systems.
  • Azure Cloud tools: we use such tools as ML studio, Azure OpenAI, and App services.
  • DevOps tools: for application development and deployment we use Git, Docker containers, Azure DevOps pipelines, Bicep and ARM templates.

Location and Reporting:

You will be based in one of our sites in Europe (check the location on our website) and report to Mikko Havimo, Head of Data Science.
