Melt Shop and Hot Strip Mill Quality Manager

As a global leader in Stainless Steel, we're seeking a dynamic Melt Shop and Hot Strip Mill Quality Manager and be part of our Quality team in Calvert, Mobile County, Alabama.
Relocation will be provided.
Objective: Provide Quality Solutions and Technical Guidance for Operational Personnel, Technical liaison with Cold Rolling Works and our mill in Mexico. Manage the MS/HSM Quality team.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelors of Science in related field or equivalent industrial and technical experience (Metallurgical, Chemical, Industrial or similar)
- > 5-10 years’ experience in a heavy industry manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of stainless-steel processing from Melting to Cold Rolling
- Knowledge of stainless-steel metallurgy and lab equipment.
- Advanced analytical and computer skills.
- Knowledge of various quality assurance and quality control methodologies.
- Experience in mechanical testing laboratory
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools

Responsibilities:
This position has people-management responsibilities. The monetary impact of this position is to ensure the Melt Shop (MS) and Hot Strip Mill AM Calvert (HSM) teams have all the resources needed to review and define processes, product parameters, perform trials, review and release product, provide value-added reports to the operational areas. This reduces rejects/reworks and reallocation inside the operational units, improves on-time delivery and Yield performance across the Cold Rolling Works (CRW) in the Americas.
Responsible for providing quality process control solutions and technical services for our MS Calvert facility and HSM, this position will interact with our location in Mexico, Mexinox, and CRW Quality teams.
This position will facilitate and manage prompt and adequate quality and technical solutions to internal and external issues using various control mechanisms.
- Drive resolutions of technical issues through effective quality engineering supervision.
- Identify and scope projects related to critical yield/internal loss, rework, and reject rates. Partner with cross-functional teams to gather technical data and conduct trials to pinpoint root causes and establish effective corrective actions.
- Develop the needed tools to evaluate and track critical control variables for MS & HSM production processes.
- Collaborate with Operations and Production Planning to maintain product supply and facilitate new product introduction as well as promoting quality performance throughout the organization.
- Manage trials and interactions with operations for internal production of trials and new products.
- Evaluate product specifications and capabilities of the company and its suppliers.
- Verify the proper execution and assessment of all tests and procedures, ensuring that any resulting product modifications are appropriately investigated.
- Create and manage a quality plan that ensures compliance with all quality system requirements.
- Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement across the organization.
- Establish quality procedures in partnership with operating staff.
- Assume responsibility for setting up and sustaining documentation procedures and internal controls.
- Ensure all area specific targets or objectives are met by supporting or initiating necessary actions.
- Support the team with ad-hoc duties and tasks.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time.
- Ability to frequently sit, stand, talk and hear for long periods of time.
- Exposure to consistent noise.
- Ability to frequently work from heights of at least 250 feet above ground.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions, including rain, extreme heat and cold and near moving parts. Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt.
- Able to climb stairs or ladders and ability to walk long distances, sometimes over uneven terrain. Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
Salary range: $118,800-163,400
