Entry Laboratory Technician

As a global leader in Stainless Steel, we're seeking a dynamic Entry Laboratory Technician and be part of our Quality team in Calvert, Mobile County, Alabama. 

 

In this role, you will perform laboratory activities under the guidance of a 1st or Laboratory Technician. Performs chemical analysis of stainless-steel samples including sample preparation according to ISO 17025 standards. Operates Laboratory equipment adhering to safety guidelines. 

 

*This position works shift schedules day and night. *

Job qualifications and experience requirements:

  • Background in chemistry, vocational training, materials tester, or metallographer is preferred.
  • Experience in the steel industry, laboratory, and/or quality control/ assurance inspection is preferred.
  • Functional level competency and proficiency skills with Microsoft Office, SAP, NiCo, Prime, PPS, LRTS and LISA-LIMS or some type of Laboratory Information Management System.

Some of the activities you will be doing:

  • Sample preparation and operates testing equipment. Navigate LIMS to register samples.
  • Perform different chemical tests according to ASTM and ISO 17025 standards.
  • Support the interpretation of test results.
  • Perform housekeeping in the lab.
  • Participate in SOP audits the development of the testing procedures.
  • Available for shift schedules 

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs and ramps) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work at heights up to 100 feet above ground.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt
  • Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
  • Bend, twist, lift, stand, walk, reach, see, move, and hear as required by specific position 
  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques

 

Salary:  USD 26.41 hour
