Crane Maintenance Technician

Location: 

Calvert, AL, US

We are looking for a Crane Maintenance Technician and be part of our Melt Shop team in Calvert, North Mobile County, AL.   

 

Education & Experience:
•    Education: High school diploma or equivalent; specialized technical training is a plus.

•    Proven experience Morgan overhead cranes(some as large as 350 tons) and wall and jib cranes 

•    Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics, troubleshooting electrical/mechanical systems, and welding.

•    3+ year experience with hot metal overhead cranes

•    Experience operating mobile equipment (Man lift and forklift)

•    Knowledge with Allen-Bradley PLC

•    Knowledge of Magnetek impulse VFD
•    Computer skills (SAP is a plus)

•    Diagnostic & mechanical skills (wire rope, gearbox, and wheel replacement)

•    Troubleshoot and repair hydraulics

Job Responsibilities:
•    Preventive Maintenance & Inspection: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on hoists, cranes, and runway systems. Morgan cranes with magnetek controls.
•    Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical components, including motors, gearboxes, wheels, brakes, magnetek impulse VFD, and electrical controls.
•    Safety Compliance: Ensure all machinery meets OSHA, ANSI, and manufacturer safety standards.
•    Documentation: Complete work orders detailing findings, repairs, and parts used.
•    Customer Service: Actively interact with customers on site, explaining repair needs and providing recommendations.

•    Replace hydraulic hoses and components     

Physical Requirements:  
•    Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards

•    Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs and ramps) same as ability to walk long distances and demonstrate good balance on uneven terrain or maneuvering obstacles
•    Ability to withstand exposure to elevated ambient temperature for extended periods of time

•    Must be able to work in extreme heat
•    Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, vibrations, dust and asphalt
•    Must be able to work in a high noise environment where the use of hearing protection is required
•    Ability to frequently use hand or fingers to handle or feel objects/materials
•    Ability to work in areas with strong magnetic fields
•    Bend, twist, lift, stand, walk, reach, see, move, and hear as required by specific position 
•    Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms
•    Must be able to communicate utilizing radios, phones and/or intercom systems 
•    Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs. utilizing proper lifting techniques
•    Ability to safely use power and hand tools 
•    Ability to safely operate powered industrial vehicles and equipment for tasks and diagnostic purposes, including overhead cranes. 

 

Salary: 35.15 hour.
