Head of Asset Management & Investments – Outokumpu Avesta
Help shape the future of sustainable industry
Outokumpu is a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, and our employees are crucial to our success. We are now looking for a Head of Asset Management & Investments who wants to take strategic, overall responsibility for management, development, and investments in our physical assets.
In this key role, you will drive Asset Management and Manufacturing Excellence for the entire Avesta site and also have a coordinating responsibility for the Swedish sites, including Nyby and Degerfors. You will hold a pivotal position in ensuring that our facilities deliver high availability, safety, and cost efficiency – both today and in the long term. The role involves close collaboration with site management, and together with plant managers you will tactically implement the strategic plan into daily operations, with a strong focus on change management and continuous improvement.
You will report to the Head of Sweden and Avesta Operations and be a natural member of the site management team.
About the role
The role is strategic and long-term, with a clear focus on leadership, structure, and development. Your mission is to set the direction for Asset Management and investments, ensure a unified Outokumpu way of working, and lead the organization through an ongoing transformation journey.
Your main responsibilities
As Head of Asset Management & Investments, you will:
- Develop and lead the short- and long-term Asset Management and Manufacturing Excellence strategy at Outokumpu Avesta.
- Develop and implement a multi-year (>3 years) Asset Management and investment plan aligned with Outokumpu’s strategic objectives.
- Ensure lifecycle planning and risk-based Asset Management for all physical assets.
- Act as a key advisor in investment and decision-making processes related to facilities and projects.
- Drive initiatives to stabilize and develop critical process lines and ensure sustainable improvements.
- Develop and support the organization in structured work with risk, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Lead and develop ways of working within project management, planning, and scheduling.
- Ensure that EHS requirements are integrated into lifecycle planning, investments, and execution.
- Coach and train managers and leaders to create engagement and understanding of Risk-Based Asset Management.
- Monitor and report results, progress, and KPIs to site management.
- Build and further develop strong collaborations with internal functions, suppliers, and contractors.
Who are you?
We are looking for a confident, clear, and strategic leader with a strong commitment to technology, people, and business development.
You hold a degree in engineering or have an equivalent technical or financial background, along with experience from leadership roles within Asset Management, maintenance, investments, or the manufacturing industry. Experience from process or heavy industry is considered an advantage.
You bring:
- Experience in change management within complex and preferably global organizations.
- Strong understanding of Lean, Manufacturing Excellence, and structured improvement methodologies.
- Project management experience with responsibility for budget, quality, and results.
- Solid financial understanding and the ability to make well-founded, long-term decisions.
- Experience working closely with management teams and at Business Area and/or Group level.
You lead through trust, are confident in your leadership role, and have the ability to engage and develop experienced employees. You are analytical, structured, and strategic, while also being flexible and positive toward change.
You thrive in management team environments and naturally adopt a holistic perspective. You prefer delegating rather than operating hands-on, building networks, and foster collaboration.
